Mormons Teach That They Are the Only True Church

The Gospel we preach is the Gospel of life and salvation. The Church which we represent is the Church and Kingdom of God, and possesses the only faith by which the children of men can be brought back into the presence of our Father and God.

Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, Pg.18

Sorry, Mr. Young, but as has been proven on this blog (and many others), the LDS is a false church built on a false prophet worshiping a man-god on another planet. There is NOTHING Christian about the LDS—not their god, their Jesus, nor their gospel.

What Is the Gospel?

[The Gospel] embraces all morality, all virtue, all light, all intelligence, all greatness, and all goodness. It introduces a system of laws and ordinances.

Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, pg.17

The biblical Gospel is much simpler. It is that we are all sinners before God and in need of a savior, and that Savior is Jesus the Messiah, who was born from a virgin and was sinless. Jesus took our punishment by being put to death on a cross and then raised from the dead, proving his sacrifice was acceptable to God the Father. He is our great high priest and those who place their faith in Him and his sacrifice are saved from hell and punishment in the afterlife.

It does NOT embrace all those ideas, laws and ordinances of which Mr. Young claims. Which is another example as to the false nature of the Mormon Church.

Works Are Not a Part of the Gospel

The Gospel of the Son of God that has been revealed is a plan or system of laws and ordinances.

Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, page.15

Brigham Young is a liar. The Gospel as has been revealed in the Bible is that we are all sinners who need a savior, and that Savior is Jesus Christ. The real Gospel is that if we have faith in Jesus and believe he died for our sins, we are saved. There is absolutely NOT a “plan or system of laws and ordinances.” Neither made up laws nor any ordinance is required for salvation.  As Galatians 2:21 notes: I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. The False Hope of Mormons

Thus came the voice of the Lord unto me, saying: “All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God; also all that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom; for I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts.

Doctrine & Covenants 137:7-9

Before I address this passage, there is a bit of a quandary:

This is in the Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, pg.403, and I’m guessing it was published in 1997 since it's of the same series as the one on Brigham Young, which shows 1997—I tossed the one on Smith’s teachings after I tore out the pages I wanted to address.

My 1968 D&C does not have this “prophecy,” having ended at D&C 136.

My 2002 “Triple Combination” (BOM, D&C, POGP) DOES have it, as does the current version on the LDS internet page.

SO what gives? Why was this not in the 1968 version? I don’t have a copy of any earlier publication, but I’d like to know when it was dropped.

Anyway, there is a real problem here. If a person has never heard the true, biblical Gospel then they cannot have “confess[ed] with [their] mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in [their] heart that God raised Him from the dead,” then they cannot be saved (Rom.10:9). Their chance of doing so was lost when they died (Heb.9:27).

If they didn’t hear the Mormon gospel it doesn’t matter because it’s a false gospel so they can’t be saved anyway.

On top of that, we are not save by our works; this is stated throughout the New Testament. (e.g., Eph.2:89)

Odds and Ends

It’s been a while since I posted a collection of links to good articles teaching you about Mormonism.  You will notice that the majority of the links are to articles on the excellent Life After Ministry blog.  If you have any interest in studying Mormonism, or if your are a Mormon seeking the truth about you faith, I highly recommend you subscribe to that blog.

Well, hold on to your seat, because here is some good reading by following these links.

The 2nd Most Stupid Quote of All Time.  This one really shows a major problem with LDS doctrine.

Investigating Mormonism 2019.  Good resource with a chart showing differences between Mormon doctrine and the Bible.

Colossians 1:16 succinctly states that Jesus created everything.  However, the Mormons claim this is not so. For them Michael the Archangel help Jesus, and then God the Father took over for the creation of man. The real conundrum for them is that they can’t even keep their creation story straight!

Did you know the most important goal for you to be saved, according to Mormons, is to get a temple recommend and perform temple rituals? How can this be true when the Bible says our most important goal for salvation is to place our faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice?

Salvation for the Mormons is really impossible. If you would like to see a more in-depth example of how a Mormon can never obtain forgiveness, read this article.

Did you know that the Mormons are still praying for vengeance against those who “persecuted” their Church in the 19th century? Of course if they would tell the truth, you’d learn that the vast majority of said persecution was responding to Mormon behaviors and threats against those among whom they settled!

The Mormons can’t settle on who that angel is who tops their temples. When you have a made-up religion, you really need to keep all your stories straight!

Here’s a look at a question I’ve thought about for a long time: how is Jesus the ONLY begotten in Pre-Existence? Thinking about this brought me back to another problem with the doctrine of Pre-Existence, and that is the problem of Mary: in the pre-existent spirit world she was a sister to Jesus and Satan, and everyone else (including you and me!) So if she was “Heavenly Father’s” daughter in the spiritual realm of pre-existence, and their God came to earth and had sex with her so she could conceive the body for Jesus to inhabit, isn’t that an incestuous relationship between their man-god and his daughter?

A question for you Mormons: Is tithing mandatory or voluntary?

I think that can be enough boggling of your mind for today!

Random Things About Mormonism

For those who study Mormonism, the Book of Abraham should be familiar to you.  For those who don’t study Mormonism, it will be new to you.  The BOA was supposedly translated by Joseph Smith from an Egyptian funeral document that came into his hands.  Of course the man couldn’t read Egyptian, but no one questioned him because he said his “gift” of translation was from God.  Since the original parchment was found back in 1966, the Mormons have come up with lots of excuses as to why the document doesn’t read as Smith claimed.   This video will take almost 57 minutes to watch, but it will give you the truth about the Mormon scripture, “The Book of Abraham.”  Short answer - it’s a fraud.

They LDS have recently come up with another defense of the Book of Abraham - a defense that doesn’t hold water.  Let’s look now at Mormon Coffee’s article about this “Mormon Conundrum.”

Mormon Coffee, the blog of Mormonism Research Ministry, is one of the best blogs for solid information about the LDS faith.  I have collected a whole passel of links to some excellent articles, and today’s post will point you to many of them.

One of the doctrines Mormons try to pretend never happened is Brigham Young’s teaching — which he claimed to get from God — about Adam being God.  They discount that Young was speaking as a prophet of God, and nowadays try to say he was just expressing a personal belief.  Well, the history proves the LDS to be - as usual - liars.

Here’s a good article about “Citizen Smith” and his nomination for the Presidency of the U.S., as well as his ordination to “King.”  Just another of those incidents most Mormons have no knowledge about.

Ever wonder about the so-called golden plates from which Joseph Smith “translated” the Book of Mormon?  Some interesting things to think about.

An interesting article showing a likely place where Joseph Smith found all the names he used in the Book of Mormon.

In their continuous attempts to make nailing down “official doctrine” very difficult, the LDS-owned Deseret Book store has posted a disclaimer in a book about President Thomas S. Monson’s teachings!   I’d like to see a Mormon explain how their President/Prophet can teach something that doesn’t represent the Mormon church!

What is the “official” teaching of the Mormon Church when it comes to their “gospel?

Just how complicated of a religious system is Mormonism?  Would it be this way if it was true?

Is the “Heavenly Mother” of Mormonism part of their godhead?  “How many divine beings are there in the Mormon Godhead?

I guess that’s enough for today.  I hope you have found all these articles to be helpful in understanding more about the non-Christian beliefs of the Mormon religion.

Mormonism’s Gospel and Salvation

The Gospel

As defined by Bruce McConkie in Mormon Doctrine,The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan of salvation. It embraces all of the laws, principles, doctrines, rites, ordinances, acts, powers, authorities, and keys necessary to save and exalt men in the highest heaven hereafter. It is the covenant of salvation which the Lord makes with men on earth.” Notice that their gospel includes many rites and works performed.

When we look to the Bible for the Christian definition of the gospel, what do we find? In 1 Corinthians 15 Paul defines the gospel in verses 3-4 as being, “that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures…” And when we look to the Bible as to what rites or works are required we find that the only requirement for salvation is defined plainly in Romans 10:9: “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” As to works, we are also plainly told in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Even Isaiah 64:6 tells us that, “all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags” before God.

Salvation

Eternal salvation for the Mormon depends on baptism and obedience to the ordinances and discipline of the church, and upon a life of good works. "The Gospel of Jesus Christ is called the plan of salvation. It is a system of rules by complying with which salvation may be gained." (E.F. Perry, The Scrapbook.) "It embraces all of the laws, principles, doctrines, rites, ordinances, acts, powers, authorities, and keys necessary to save and exalt men in the highest hereafter... It is found only in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." (Mormon Doctrine, pp. 331-334.)

In the Christian church, salvation is based only on faith in Christ, that one believes He was crucified for our sins and died and was raised from the dead. (John 3:16; Rom. 5:12-6:23; Rom. 10:9; 1 Cor. 15:1-8, et al). The Bible is replete with passages telling us that faith alone saves, and that our works are only evidence of that faith.

As you can readily see from this synopsis, when speaking with a Mormon about the Gospel or salvation, you need to define your words. They use the same words, but they mean something totally different. Their gospel is what Paul warned us against in Galatians 1:6-9, and their mode of salvation has no similarity at all to what Scripture says.

Proof again that Mormons are not Christians.
