Some Thought-Provoking Articles

If you read the linked articles, you can come to no other conclusion than that Joseph Smith was a false prophet and the LDS is NOT a Christian denomination (I.e., it is a convoluted cult).

Oftentimes, it’s what they don’t say

What does the word “Christ” mean?

The LDS New Testament is full of lies!!!!

The Mormons don’t believe in the biblical Trinity, so:

Why is the Trinity in the Book of Mormon?

Why is the Trinity in the Doctrine & Covenants?

For all their claims to be Christian, the LDS does not believe in the God of Scripture.

Besides claiming that Noah is the angel Gabriel, the LDS claims that Adam is Michael the archangel. The problem is that angels and humans are two different creations: man cannot become an angel!! Adam was never noted in the Bible as a priest, let alone a high priest!

Wait a minute—I thought Adam was God, who had sex with Mary to produce a body for Jesus. Wait another minute—so Adam is a “son of God?” The LDS Adam is quite a convoluted person!

Why Did the Nephites Speak Greek?

Amusing to me is that the LDS still struggles with polygamy. If God ordered it, why did they stop—why did they not disobey the law of the land?

Along those lines, we have The Changing God of Mormonism.

The temple oaths are nothing more than signs and oaths from the Freemasonry cult.

But the LDS says that the earth was created for temple endowments—so how come there were no such things until aft Joe Smith invented them?

The Bible was never meant for today?!?!?

How did Joe Smith really get his priesthood?

Mormons say we don’t need God! Of course they also say there are multiple gods and people on other planets!

So, LDS members, doesn’t any of this make you think just a wee bit that there is a problem with your religion, that it doesn’t make a bit of sense?

Joseph Smith Never Understood the Difference Between Humans and Angels

Daniel in his seventh chapter speaks of the Ancient of Days; he means the oldest man, our Father Adam, Michael; he will call his children together and hold a council with them to prepare them for the coming of the Son of Man [see Daniel 7:9-14]. He (Adam) is the father of the human family, and presides over the spirits of men, and all that have had the keys must stand before him in this grand council.... The Son of Man stands before him, and there is given him glory and dominion. Adam delivers up his stewardship to Christ, that which was delivered to him as holding the keys of the universe, but retains his standing as head of the human family.”

Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, pg.104

The title “Ancient of Days” has historically been interpreted as referring to God (or sometimes Jesus). It never, never has been a reference to Adam. And, as noted in my previous post, Michael the archangel is NOT Adam; Adam was a human and Michael, as an angel, is a completely different being. Adam does not preside over anyone because he died and had no authority over anyone even when he was alive.

When it comes to the “Son of Man,” i.e. Jesus, he is God in the flesh and never received any “stewardship” or “keys of the universe” from Adam because Adam had none to give Jesus.

Show me from the Bible where I am wrong.

Did They Really Say That?!?

Your virtue is worth more than your life. Please, young folk, preserve your virtue even if you lose your lives.

Spencer W. Kimball, Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 63

So if you are about to be raped, you should force the person to kill you?

And just look what happens if you remain monogamous:

This law of monogamy, or the monogamic system, laid the foundation for prostitution and the evils and diseases of the most revolting nature and character under which modern Christendom groans, for as God has implanted, for a wise purpose, certain feelings in the breasts of females as well as males, the gratification of which is necessary to health and happiness, and which can only be accomplished legitimately in the married state…”

Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1869, Journal of Discourses 13:195

So then, God made a mistake when he gave Adam just one wife?  So prostitution is caused by a man not being able to have more than one wife?  Why do STDs not appear in monogamous unions if they are the origin of them?

Things Mormons know about Michael the archangel which the Bible doesn’t tell us:

President Young said Michael was a resurrected Being and he left Eloheem and came to this earth & with an immortal body, & continued so till he partook of earthly food and begat Children who were mortal. (Keep this to yourselves). Then they died.

Wilford Woodruff Journal, p. 270-271, 27 January 1860.

Michael, as an angel, was created as an angel, which is a spiritual being not related to humans. They do not marry (as noted by Jesus in Matthew 22:29-30) and do not procreate. It is interesting that his audience was to keep this information to themselves — obviously because he knew it was a lie!

And we cannot doubt that the greatest of all female spirits was the one then chosen and foreordained to be ‘the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh’ (1 Nephi 11:18). Nor can we do other than suppose that Eve was by her side, rejoicing in her foreordination to be the first woman, the mother of men, the consort, companion, and friend of mighty Michael…”

Bruce R. McConkie, “Woman, Eve and the Fall,” p. 59; Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation 1:74-75

So Eve was a consort of Michael? But Eve was human and Michael is an angel, so how does that work?!? Where in the Bible do we find even that Eve was a friend of Michael? (H/T: Life After Ministry.)

If Mormons would just read their Bible and quit listening to the lies of their leaders they just might find the true Gospel and be saved!

The Mormon Adam is NOT the Biblical Adam

Adam was among the intelligences spoken of by the Lord to Abraham who were appointed to be rulers on this earth. He was Michael, a prince, and son of God chosen to come to this earth and stand at the head of his posterity, holding the "keys of salvation under the counsel and direction of the Holy One, who is without beginning of days or end of life." This Holy One is Jesus Christ. On the earth Michael was known as Adam. In the pre-existent state he was a spirit like the others of our Father's children. In the Book of Genesis we are told that Adam obtained his body from the dust of the earth, and that he was not subject to death is inferred in the commandment the Lord gave him, that if he transgressed the divine commandment and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he should surely die. In the Book of Mormon we are positively informed that Adam would have lived forever in the garden if he had not partaken of the forbidden fruit. So Adam was in no sense mortal until after his transgression. That his immortal spirit came from another world is verily true, just as it is true of each one of us, for we all lived in the spirit existence before we came into this world and obtained bodies which inherited mortality through the fall of Adam.

We are also informed in the scriptures that before Adam and Eve transgressed they were without children, and the fall was essential to the peopling of the earth with their offspring. When the truth in relation to the consequences of the fall were made known to Adam and Eve, they rejoiced, and Eve said:

"...Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient. ....

Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, Vol 1, Chapter 2.

So much to address here!

First: There was and is no such thing as pre-existing intelligences or spirits waiting to be created/born. 1 Cor. 15:46: However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, then the spiritual. Adam was created out of the dust of the ground and did not exist spiritually prior to that.

Second: Adam was NOT “Michael, a prince.” Michael was/is an archangel (Jude 1:9, Rev.12:7) who is referred to in Daniel as a “prince” (Dan. 10, 12). Angels were never humans, nor will humans ever be angels; they were created before humans (Job 8:37). Adam was created after the angels.

Third: Adam never had any “keys of salvation.”  There are no such things ever mentioned in Scripture, and Adam was not responsible for salvation in any way, shape, or form.

Fourth: Referring to the Book of Mormon is only teaching lies about lies, since the BOM is a fraudulent document.

Fifth: Adam and Eve were able to have children before the Fall; after all, God told them to “be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it” (Gen. 1:28); if they were unable to have children before the Fall, then God is lying to them here. The fact that they had no children prior to the fall only means that the Fall came before a child was born, for there is no reason Eve couldn’t have, or wouldn’t have been with child.

This whole ideology is based on the NEED for Adam & Eve to sin so that they could procreate. This is utter unbiblical nonsense, as anyone actually reading the Bible should understand.

(For some humor about Smith’s grammar, I’d like to point out that the phrase, “that he was not subject to death is inferred in the commandment…”, should read “implied” vs “inferred.” We infer what is implied. This is a very common mistake nowadays, but you’d think a “prophet of God” would know better.)

What about Brigham Young’s teaching that Adam was God? Mormon teachers seem to be quite mixed up as to just who Adam was.  Of course they are also mixed up about Jesus and God; perhaps they should read the Bible once in a while.

Did They Really Say That?!?

Adam was an immortal being when he came on this earth.  He had lived on an earth similar to ours, he had received the Priesthood and the Keys thereof, and he had been faithful in all things and gained his resurrection and his exaltation and was crowned with glory, immortality and eternal lives and was numbered with the Gods for such he became through his faithfulness. And he had begotten all the spirits that were to come to this earth.  And Eve, our common mother, who is the mother of all living, bore these spirits in the Celestial world, and then this earth was organized by Elohim, Jehovah, and Michael, who is Adam, our common Father.  Adam and Eve had the privilege to continue the work of progression, consequently came to this earth and commenced the great work of forming tabernacles for those spirits to dwell in.
L. John Nuttall Journal, 7 February 1877, 1:19 as recorded in Michael/Adam by Ogden Kraut.  Nuttall was Brigham Young’s secretary and one of his closest friends.  Cited in “Mormonism, Mama & Me,” by Thelma “Granny” Geer, p.185

This is plainly the teaching of the Adam-God doctrine which the LDS claim was just Brigham Young’s idea and not from God.  Of course Young said he got the teaching from God, but I guess that doesn’t count when one is embarrassed by the teaching.

So the current theology of the LDS has God the Father as the origin of all the spirits, whereas here we see it is Adam who is the origin.  Additionally, whereas Michael in the Bible is an angel, which is a separate creation than man, this teaching has a man — Adam — being also Michael!

Notice how Adam had to work his way to godhood, and they previously lived on another planet.  The Bible knows absolutely NOTHING about such nonsense.  This teaching is about as convoluted as it gets.

Did They Really Say That?!?

However, Adam was an archangel.  The scripture refers to him as the archangel.  The definition of that prefix - arch - is chief, or preeminent.  An added definition says: “most fully embodying the qualities of his kind.”  Adam, then, was the chief angel, but not Deity.  He embodied most fully the qualities of an angelic existence.  He was preeminent among the angels.  He was their leader, and his name at that time was Michael.  But, we repeat, he was an angel.
Mark E. Petersen, Adam: Who Is He?, p.7.

WOW!  Mr. Petersen says “scripture” calls Adam “the archangel,” but you won’t find that in the Bible.  Nor will you find in the Bible that Adam and Michael are the same.  In the Bible we find that angels and men are different creations, yet the LDS teaching is not this way, and in fact teaches that some angels are resurrected men (e.g., Moroni)!

In the Bible we see that Adam was created as a man on the sixth day of creation, and that he was created out of the dust of the ground. (Gen. 1:26; 2:7)  Adam did NOT pre-exist as an angel.  In fact, the Bible tells us that the angels were there to watch the creation of man! (Job 38:7)

My feeling is that this was written to counteract the teaching of Brigham Young that Adam was God.  Although Young claimed that God revealed this to him, and the LDS accept Young as a prophet of God, the LDS denounces the Adam-God doctrine as never having been official.  Of course when Brigham Young taught the Adam-God doctrine, it was “official” church doctrine and the members believed it.

So here we have Brigham Young teaching that Adam was really God, while this author teaches that Adam wasn’t divine, but just an angel.  Either way, the LDS teachings contradict the Bible, proving again that the LDS is NOT a Christian sect.

Did They Really Say That?!?

“When Adam was placed on this earth all his former knowledge was taken away.  Yet the Lord has made known to us that Adam lived before and had experiences as Michael, the great prince, who was chosen to stand at the head of the human family on this earth as the Ancient of Days.”

Joseph Fielding Smith, The Way to Perfection, p.17

What is wrong with this picture?

Firstly, the Bible plainly says we exist physically before we exist spiritually (1 Cor. 15:44-46) so there was no “former knowledge” for Adam to have.  Secondly, Adam was a man while Michael was an angel - two different types of created beings.  Lastly, the “Ancient of Days” spoken of in Daniel 7 is God.  God created Adam, so the two cannot be the same.  However, this citation harks back to the Adam-God doctrine taught by Brigham Young and denied by the LDS today.

Did They Really Say That?!?

“STATUS OF ADAM IN PRE-EXISTENCE.  The first man placed upon the earth was a perfect being, a son of God.  He was Michael, the Archangel, who had reached great distinction and power before he ever came to this earth; and who helped to frame this earth while he was yet a spirit, just as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was a spirit before he was born in Bethlehem.”

Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation 1:90 (italics in the original)

Who does the Bible say was the first man on earth?  Adam.
How can Michael the Archangel be a man, since humans and angels are different creations?
How could anyone pre-exist in the spiritual state when 1 Cor. 15:44-46 says the “natural” comes before the spiritual?

Who do you trust - the author of the Word of God or Joseph Fielding Smith?
