"Was there a Great Apostasy in Christianity? If there wasn't, then why shouldn't we become Romans Catholic? If there was no Great Apostasy, then Joseph Smith was wrong about his First Vision. In this video, we give you 4 reasons the Great Apostasy is a false doctrine of Mormonism, debunking one of the most foundational claims of the LDS Church.
"According to Mormon belief, Christianity fell into complete apostasy after the time of the Apostles, necessitating Joseph Smith's restoration of the true church. However, the Bible, history, and sound theology all refute this idea."
It's important for Mormons to watch so as to prove to them that Joseph Smith and his teachings are all false and the LDS is not a Christian faith, rather it is a non-Christian cult.
I watched the video out of curiosity. I did not see how the person came to that conclusion because when I have read the and studied the Bible, I see Paul consistently warned of the Gentiles abandoning the faith and consistently rebuked them for apostasy. Plus, if I understand the History behind Protestant Reformation - it was based on the reality that they believed Roman Catholicism (which was predominately the main Christian faith for centuries) had become corrupt and had undergone apostasy.
I have questions and am attempting to understand. Is he saying there was never any actual apostasy? And claiming that evidence does not support it? If so, a cursory understanding of Paul, history, and the Bible shows many viewed the Church having been in a state of apostasy.
Anonymous, If you actually watched it, he explains why there was no total apostasy. Paul talks of INDIVIDUAL apostasy, not the apostasy of the Church. There was never a total apostasy of the CHURCH.
Roman Catholicism with a Pope leader didn't begin to slowly apostacize with the addition of heretical and other false doctrines until around the 5th century. But there were Christians all over the world who never became part of the Papist church, and when they became known the Papist church would execute them. But they never caught all of them. The original church has always been present.
I am supposed to debate Timothy Berman via video and wondering what additional information I can use to counter his argument on the nature of the Apostasy and how it was not what the Mormon's teach. He responded to the GLM video. Do you have any information that may help in addressing what he wrote in his post. I am posting the link here for you to review. Not worried about it being published. More for your information as I am seeking guidance in addressing and responding to what he brought up. https://apologialdschristianfaith.blogspot.com/2025/01/responding-to-bradley-campbell-of-god.html
All I can say is you need to study the history of the Church and understand what I said in my previous comment. You might try Mormonism Research Ministry for assisstance. https://www.mrm.org/

What is the purpose of the video and how come it is important for Mormons to watch it?
