Loveless Mormon Marriages

It is the duty of a first wife to regard her husband not with a selfish devotion… she must regard her husband with indifference, and with no other feeling than that of reverence, for love we regard as a false sentiment; a feeling which should have no existence in polygamy… we believe in the good old custom by which marriages should be arranged by the parents of the young people.

Zina Huntington, wife of Brigham Young, New York World, November 17, 1869.  Cited by Stanley P. Hirshson, The Lion of the Lord, pp. 229-230, 1969. H/T Michelle

This was a problem with polygamy: no love was expected, just duty.

Polygamy was NEVER sanctioned by God, rather He tolerated it due to the sinfulness of man.  I have previously written an article demonstrating from the Bible God’s view of polygamy.  In the Book of Mormon we have Jacob 1:15 calling polygamy a “wicked practice”; Jacob 2:24 calls polygamy “abominable”; Jacob 2:27 says God commands no one to have more than one wife; Jacob 3:5 also states that no one should have more than one wife; Ether 10:5 tells us polygamy is not right in God's sight. All these passages contradict Doctrine & Covenants 132.

Smith’s need to satisfy his lust led him to disregard the Bible and forget what he wrote in the Book of Mormon. (Why no women used the BOM against Smith’s taking them as wives is curious.) The doctrine of polygamy was invented to justify Joseph Smith’s serial adultery, and it justified every other Mormon man satisfying their lusts as they followed Joseph Smith’s example.

I have read many testimonies of wives who were part of plural marriages in the LDS in the 19th century (as well as from current FLDS) and they all tell of the horrible lives they were forced into. One such testimony was by Ann Eliza Young in her autobiographical book, Wife Number 19.  She spoke of the hardships of sharing a husband with so many other wives: “to show the pitiable condition of its women, held in a system of bondage that is more cruel than African slavery ever was, since it claims to hold body and soul alike.” All one has to do is read the Bible to see the stories of Abraham and Jacob and the troubles with their polygamous wives to understand that a polygamous family will not be stable.

Love is certainly lacking in polygamous marriages because the wives are all subservient to the husband’s desire for sex. Most LDS women entered such unions because they were threatened with the loss of salvation in the “celestial” heaven. The relationships became nothing but duty to serve the man’s sexual appetite.

Marriage was designed by God to be the union of two people, to bind them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.  When more women are added to the union, all the binding of the couple is destroyed. So love becomes absent.

Some Good Information To Dismantle Mormon Claims

Changing their name won’t change what they are: a non-Christian cult.

Proof that the author of he Book of Mormon plagiarized the KJV New Testament.

When Joseph Smith WROTE the Book of Mormon, he still had fairly orthodox views of the Christian faith. In Moroni 8:18 he wrote, For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity. Think of that: he said God was unchangeable from eternity — that he wasn’t a changeable being.  Yet in the King Follett Discourse Smith taught the new god that Mormons follow today: a man who earned his way to salvation and now lives on another planet with multiple wives. Robert Bowman has an excellent article discussing how this is a conundrum for Mormons.

The character of Joseph Smith was one of violence.  And yet he is to be admired?!?

The evolution of Joseph Smith’s “First Vision.”  The story changed so much, that it proved itself a lie.

The false prophecy of the destruction of New York City. Ask them to explain!

The First “9/11” — Mountain Meadows Massacre

On 11 September 1857, Mormons, pretending to be Indians, along with some Indians they talked into joining them, massacred over 120 men, women and children from a wagon train at a location in Utah known as Mountain Meadows. This massacre is little known outside of those who study the history of Mormonism.

The real dastardly thing about the massacre was that after days of attacks the Mormons and Indians (few of the latter) were losing too many men and were not making any headway. So under orders from higher ups, John D. Lee approached with a flag of truce, told the wagon train members that the Mormons were there to protect them from the Indians, and the only way they could do that would be to have all weapons put into a wagon, have small children in another wagon, the women and other children walking in a separate group from the men, and all would be escorted to a safe location. Instead, once they were all disarmed and separated, the Mormons killed them all except for the small children who they believed wouldn’t be able to tell the story — the children were then given to Mormon families to raise.

In 2007 a movie, September Dawn, was made about the massacre. Overall the story it told was factual but, as normal with Hollywood, they put in some characters which weren’t there (and a wee bit of exaggeration used with the tirades of the “bishop” in the story) and left out some important parts. For example: The movie showed the Mormons on horses riding next to the men they shot, while in real life the Mormons were walking next to the victims. It also showed the firing squad at the end in the open, while in real life they were hidden from public view so they couldn’t be identified and possibly have their families put in danger. So although there were errors in the movie, it is still worthwhile to see to learn about this tragedy perpetrated by so-called “Christians.”

If you are not in to reading, the following You Tube videos should be valuable for learning a wee bit about this horror which Mormons lie about. (There are many more available.)

Books I highly recommend for educating yourself about this massacre:

Mormonism Unveiled or Life & Confession of John D. Lee (with an appendix history of Brigham Young).  This book goes a very long while before discussing the massacre, but the reason for Lee writing it was to expose all the perpetrators of the massacre before he was executed as the scapegoat.

A Few Ludicrous Mormon Teachings

The Mormons can get so ludicrous that it is difficult to keep up with their bizarre, unbiblical teachings.  For example, according them Adam had the 10 Commandments!  Since the 10C were for the nation of Israel, which didn’t exist for a very, very long time after Adam died, I would say that the Mormons just tell another lie.

Of course they worship a god who can be dethroned! Personally, I want to worship a God who is a greater being than I!

The laws of Mormonism necessary for salvation are virtually endless. How can any Mormon actually believe they are saved, since it would be impossible to follow all these rules?

But the Mormons say Jesus will become a god, but Christianity teaches that Jesus IS God. If Jesus isn’t God, then how can he save us from our sins?

Telling the Truth Can Get You Excommunicated

The Mormons have historically excoriated any Mormon historian who exposed the evil and the lies of Mormon past. If I recall correctly, they’ve even excommunicated some for speaking the truth about the past. In fact, the leadership has stated that historians “should tell only that part of the truth that is inspiring and uplifting.”

I recently reported on a case where a Mormon has exposed how Mormon leaderships’ private sexual interviews have led to sexual abuse, including actual abuse and covert abuse (emotional sexual abuse).  This man, Sam Young (an ex-LDS Bishop) is acting as an historian in that he is exposing the history of these sexual abuses and demanding changes.  In fact, Mr. Young has a site dedicated to his cause, which posts stories from the victims; such stories make one’s heart ache for these children.

Well, I guess Mr. Young didn’t read the rule about not telling truth that isn’t “inspiring and uplifting,” because now he has been summoned for a disciplinary hearing and faces excommunication.

Remember, the LDS lied about practicing polygamy and other sexual immorality while in Nauvoo, and when William Law exposed the truth his printing presses and newspaper were destroyed. They do NOT like their secrets exposed.

All I can say is that a TRUE Church of Christ wouldn’t have a problem with truth.

Did They Really Say That?!?

One of the first doctrines to disappear when apostasy conceives in the hearts of mortals is the fact that God is a glorified man. When people repress that doctrine, they forget who they really are and what they may become (cf. the Zoramites, Alma 31:15)

So, when Christians teach that God is a spirit, as Scripture says in John 4:24, that is an apostate doctrine?! Where in the Bible does it teach that God is a “glorified man”?  This idea was invented by Joseph Smith and was never a doctrine of the Jews or Christians.

Numbers 23:19:  God is not a man…neither the soon man…
1 Samuel 15:29: for [God] is not a man…
Hosea 11:9: For I am God, and not man…
Luke 39: …for a spirit hath not flesh and bones…

The Word of God is quite clear that God was never a man, but is an eternal spirit.  The apostasy, and abject heresy, is the LDS doctrine of God as a man who had to earn his way to godhood.

This is followed by the heresy which say what we really are, are people who are earning our way to godhood also, and that we were spirit children of this god-man and his wives.  Man was created by THE God who is a spirit with no body and had no sexual intercourse.

Mormons, you have been greatly deceived and worship a false god and false Christ, neither of which will save you from your sins.

A Collection of Links to Good Articles Exposing Various Aspects of Mormonism

How’s that for a post title!

I noted a while back that I found a great site, Life After Ministry, refuting all things Mormon, and most of the links below come from that site. Michelle really does some great picking apart of LDS teachings, demonstrating conclusively over and over again that the LDS is nothing more than a non-Christian cult. The articles linked to are too good to not share with my readers!  Be discerning, be wise, and be open to learning the truth.

When dealing with the Mormons, or any other cult, always get them to define their terms. You will find they do not speak the same language. A perfect example is the Mormon teaching about Adam and Eve, who certainly aren’t the Adam and Eve of the bible. And, of course, the Holy Ghost of the LDS is not the Holy Spirit of the Bible — just like their God and Jesus aren’t the same as in the Bible.  Proving once again that the LDS is not a Christian organization.

Before we finish with defining terms, don’t forget to get them to define just who Mary, the mother of Jesus, was; the Mormon’s false Mary is held to high esteem. This article about the LDS Mary is an excellent supplement to my article on the same topic — or perhaps MY article would be the supplement!

The Mormon Jesus doesn’t make it to heaven. Or does He? Don’t they teach that he was a polygamist

LDS Divine Authority, Priesthood, and Blacks: what a disaster of ideology.

Did you know that Noah lived in America and built his ark here? But doesn’t the Bible tell us he lived and built the ark in what is now the Middle East? Did you know that before the Flood, all the inhabitants of America were righteous? And that Zion was in America? And that Enoch preached in America? If this was true, ’’t we have read about all this in the Bible?  These are just some more of the many false, as well as bizarre, teachings of the Mormon Church. (Be sure to read Michelle’s comments on both these articles.)

There is absolutely NO evidence for any of Mormonism’s claims.  NONE, NADA, ZIP.

The LDS is fixated on sex to where they teach it is better to be dead than to lose one’s chastity.  If a female is raped, it would be better is she died. If someone fornicates, it would be better if they were dead.  This is HORRID teaching!

The many lies of the LDS which are told to help their members keep their faith.  This type of propaganda is only necessary with cults.  Now you have the information to counter these lies.

When it comes to lies, they pretend that Christians can’t answer six questions that Mormons were able to answer.

If their religion wasn’t built on lies, there wouldn’t be a Mormon religion.  Examples abound, such as this article about their lying abuse of Scripture.

I hope you learned some good information from this collection.  Put it to good use when witnessing to Mormons.

Sexual Abuse in the Mormon Church

Joseph Smith originated sexual abuse in the Mormon church when he coerced young women (as young as 14) into sexual relations under the auspices of “celestial marriage.”  Then the whole idea of polygamy (which is abuse of wives, etc) became doctrine. Of course Smith and other polygamists claimed there were no plural marriages going on in Nauvoo; i.e. lying about polygamy that was indeed taking place.

When Mormon leadership decided to have a manifesto denouncing polygamy (essentially so Utah could become a state), Mormons continued to lie about it taking place for many more years. Protecting sexual predators is part of Mormon history.

The article even points out that this predator was just shuffled around to other locations — sort of like the way Catholicism handles their predator priests!

In addition to the HUFFPOST article, I came across another article which demonstrates the horrid sexuality teaching the LDS forces on children, and their rampant child sex abuse. (Be sure to watch the whole video to learn about the odd things they teach in regards to human sexuality.)

So with the history of sexual abuse and sexual immorality in the LDS cult, and their lying to cover it all up from the beginning, these articles didn’t really surprise me.  After all, when their religion is all about control, money, and sex, what else could you expect?

Did They Really Say That?!?

If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p.471

So, according to the LDS, our salvation rests with Joseph Smith?  And unless you are a member of the LDS you cannot be saved?

The first lie is that there was a restoration of the church.  Since the Christian Church never ceased to exist since the Resurrection of Christ, there would be no need for a “restoration.”  The LDS claims the Church ceased to exist but offers no proof that it did so, nor is there anywhere in actual historical records which states the Church ever ceased to exist.

The second lie is that without Joseph Smith there would be no salvation. Our salvation is through Jesus and NOT through anyone else.

The third lie is that there is no salvation outside the LDS.  In actuality, there is no salvation WITHIN the LDS, since the LDS worships a false Christ and a false God.

The Mormon faith is base on lies from the very beginning of its being invented by Joseph Smith.

Did They Really Say That?!?

A false doctrine is a corrupt doctrine; a false religion is a corrupt religion; a false teacher is a corrupt teacher. Any man who teaches a false doctrine, who believers in and practices and teaches a false religion is a corrupt professor, because he teaches that which is impure and not true. That is the trouble with Christianity today. It is not true. Christianity is, perhaps, no truer or falser than any other religion, than Mohammedanism, Confucianism, Buddhism or any other ism or philosophy.
Apostle Hyrum M. Smith, Conference Reports, October 1916, p.43

Since whoever does not belong to “the church of the Lamb of God” belongs to “the church of the devil,” as Nephi announced, then all systems of worship outside of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would be classified as “the church of the devil” by Nephi’s definition.

BYU Professor Kent P. Jackson, “‘Watch and Remember’: The New Testament and the Great Apostasy,” By Study and Also by Faith: Essays in Honor of Hugh W. Nibley on the Occasion of His Eightieth Birthday, 27 March 1990, 1:87

I keep finding snippets like these where Mormon leaders denigrate Christians all the while saying they never do.  They get upset if REAL Christians state the fact that Mormons are not Christian (witness Mitt Romney’s latest tirade against Robert Jeffress), but they pretend they’ve never spoken evil against Christianity. (Of course I’ve posted previous articles and links to others which prove differently).

It’s part of their whole game of pretending to being “persecuted” by Christians while they are “innocent” — just more lies from an organization founded on lies.

Was Jesus Married, and a Polygamist?

The official LDS stance is that they have no doctrine declaring that Jesus was married, but they do acknowledge many members have taught as much over the years.

Therefore, the easy answer is that no, Latter-day Saint doctrine does not teach that Jesus was married, polygamist or otherwise. In fact, there is no official Church doctrine on this issue. Members are free to believe as they wish concerning this matter.

This is really quite disingenuous.  Mormons consider Brigham Young to have been a prophet, and his teachings were doctrine when he taught them. Oh, but the LDS also seems to deny this fact when current ideology needs to distance itself from really, really weird teachings (e.g. Adam-God doctrine by Young]. So you either have a prophet who speaks for God, or you don’t. You can’t claim he spoke for God and then say sometimes he made a mistake - he’d be stoned in the O.T.!

The link above gives some of the teachings by various people in the LDS, including Prophet/President Joseph Fielding Smith (oops, was he not a prophet when he believed it?).  The claim is also that it was only in the mid-1800s that this was taught by certain people.  Well, let me list some of the teachings I’ve come across (including one the link cites by Orson Hyde):

Jedediah M. Grant, Second Counselor to Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1, pp.345-346:
Celsus was a heathen philosopher; and what does he say upon the subject of Christ and his Apostles, and their belief? He says, “The grand reason why the Gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ, was because he had so many wives.; there were Elizabeth, and May, and a host of others that followed him.” After Jesus went from stage of action, the Apostles followed the example of their master…. The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based on polygamy,… A belief in the doctrine of plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers.  We might almost think they were “Mormons.”

Apostle Orson Hyde:
When Mary of old cam to the sepulcher…she saw two angels in white, “And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She said unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord,” or husband, “and I know not where they have laid him…. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.” Is there not here manifested the affections of a wife. These words speak the kindred ties and sympathies that are common to that relation of husband and wife.
Conference Message, 10/6/54, Journal of Discourses, Vol.2, pg.81

Now there was actually a marriage; and if Jesus was not the bridegroom on that occasion, please tell who was. If any man can show this, and prove that it was not the Savior of the world, then I will acknowledge I am in error. We say it was Jesus Christ who was married, to be brought into the relation whereby he could see his seed, before he was crucified.
Conference Message, 10/6/54, Journal of Discourses, Vol.2, pg.82

I discover that some of the Eastern papers represent me as a great blasphemer, because I said, in my lecture on Marriage, at our last Conference, that Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives, and that he begat children.  All that I have to say in reply to that charge is this — they worship a Savior that is too pure and holy to fulfil the commands of his Father.  I worship one that is just pure and holy enough “to fulfil all righteousness;” not only the righteous law of baptism, but the still more righteous and import law “to multiply and replenish the earth.”
3/18/55, Journal of Discourses, Vol.2, pg.210

It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and on a careful reading of that transaction, it will be discovered that no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha, and the other Mary whom Jesus loved, must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the best of it. I will venture to say that if Jesus Christ were now to pass through the most pious countries in Christendom with a train of women, such as used to follow him, … he would be mobbed, tarred, and feathered, and rode not on an ass, but on a rail… At this doctrine the long-faced hypocrite and the sanctimonious bigot will probably cry, blasphemy! … Object not, therefore, too strongly against the marriage of Christ,…
Journal of Discourses, Vol.4, pp. 259-260.

When the “gentiles” stated that polygamy was one of the “relics of barbarism,” Brigham Young replied: “Yes, one of the relics of Adam, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob, of Moses, David, Solomon, the Prophets, of Jesus, and of his apostles.”
Journal of Discourses, Vol.11, pg.328.

On another occasion Brigham Young stated: “The Scripture says that He, the LORD, came walking in the Temple, with His train; I do not know who they were, unless His wives and children;…”
Journal of Discourses, Vol.13, pg.309.

NOTICE!! These last to cite Brigham Young stating that Jesus was a polygamist.  So, as noted above, would that not be doctrine, whether or not it was in any “standard work”?!?

… we apprehend that even greater troubles than these may arise before mankind learn all the particulars of Christ’s incarnation—how and by whom he was begotten; the character of the relationships formed by that act; the number of wives and children he had….
Millennial Star, Vol.15, pg.825 (1853).

Apostle Orson Pratt
If none but Gods will be permitted to multiply immortal children, it follows that each God must have one or more wives.
The Seer, pg.158

One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus — such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them, and associated with them much; and when He arose from the dead, instead of showing Himself to His chosen witnesses, the Apostles, He appeared first to these women, or at least to one of them — namely, Mary Magdalene.  Now it would be natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were His wives.
The Seer, p.159

It will be seen that the Great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion, was a polygamist, … the Messiah chose…by marrying many honorable wives himself, show to all future generations that He approbated the plurality of wives under the Christian dispensation in which His Polygamist ancestors lived.  We have now clearly shown that God the Father had a plurality of wives, one or more being in eternity, by whom he began our spirits as well as the spirit of Jesus His first Born, and another being upon the earth by whom He begat the tabernacle of Jesus, as his only begotten in this world. We have also proved most clearly that the Son followed the example of his Father, and became the great Bridegroom to whom kings’ daughters and many honorable wives were to be married. We have also proved that both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time; … And then it would be so shocking to the modesty of the very pious ladies of Christendom to see Abraham and his wives, Jacob and his wives, Jesus and his honorable wives, all eating occasionally at the same table, and visiting one another, and conversing about their numerous children and their kingdoms. Oh, ye delicate ladies of Christendom how can you endure such a scene as this? … If you do not want your morals corrupted, and your delicate ears shocked, and your pious modesty put to the blush by the society of polygamists and their wives, do not venture near the New Earth; for polygamists will be honored there, and will be among the chief rulers in that Kingdom.
The Seer, pg.172. (notice this also claims the LDS god father Jesus literally with Mary)

Other Mormons
One of the wives of Brigham Young—Mrs. Augusta Cobb Young—a highly educated and intelligent Boston lady…requested of her Prophet husband a favor of a most extraordinary description.  She had forsaken her lawful husband and family…to join the Saints,… when the lady of whom I speak asked him to place her at the head of his household, he refused: …finding that she could not be Brigham’s “queen,” and having been taught by the highest Mormon authorities that our Savior had, and has, many wives, she requested to be “sealed” to Him!  Brigham Young told her (for what reason I do not know) that it really was out of his power to do that, but that he would do “the next best thing” for her—he would “seal” her to Joseph Smith.  So the was sealed to Joseph Smith,… in the resurrection she will leave him [Young] and go over to the original Prophet.
Fanny Stenhouse, Tell It All, pg.255

NOTICE!!!  Again Brigham Young is cited as teaching the polygamy of Jesus!

Next, these last three citations, all by John J. Stewart, prove that the teaching wasn’t relegated to the mid-1800s, since these were written in the 1960s!

Plural marriage was a common practice among God’s chosen people….Mary, Martha, Mary Magdalene and many other women were beloved of Jesus. For a person to say that he believes the Bible but does not believe the doctrine of plural marriage is something akin to saying that he accepts the Constitution but not the Bill of Rights.
Brigham Young and His Wives, pg.26 (1961)

Now briefly, the reason that the Lord, through the Prophet Joseph Smith, introduced the doctrine of plural marriage, and the reason that the Church…has never and will never relinquish the doctrine of plural marriage, is simply this: The major purpose of the Church is to help man attain the great eternal destiny suggested in that couplet… Plural marriage is the patriarchal order of marriage lived by God and others who reign in the Celestial Kingdom.
Brigham Young and His Wives, pg.41 (1961)

Plural marriage, explained the Prophet, is the patriarchal order of marriage lived by God and others who reign in the Celestial Kingdom; therefore, both the eternity of the marriage covenant and the plurality of wives are contained in the revelation,…
Joseph Smith the Mormon Prophet, pg.69 (1966)

Notice that not only did the Prophet/President Brigham Young teach this, but we have teachings also from two APOSTLES.  These are men high in the church, who were considered to be authoritative teachers!

This is typical of the Latter-day Saint cult; they lie and obfuscate about old teachings which now embarrass them.  They’ve done this with polygamy, they’ve done it with the Adam-God doctrine, and they’ve done it with the whole racist teachings about why black people are black and why they couldn’t hold the priesthood!  These are just a few of the many things they lie about.  If you have to lie about your belief system, then perhaps you should re-evaluate whether you should be believing it!
